An 89-year-old Fox Lake woman died following a two-vehicle crash in unincorporated Grayslake Friday after she failed to yield to a passing car, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called around 12:05 p.m. Friday to Wilson Road and Route 60 in Fremont Township for a vehicle crash with injuries and heavy damage.

Lake County Sheriff’s Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a 2005 Dodge Neon, driven by an 89-year-old Fox Lake woman, was traveling southbound on Wilson Road. The driver stopped at the stop sign and attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Route 60.

Covelli said that the woman turned in the path of a westbound 2018 Kia Forte, driven by a 28-year-old Lake in the Hills man, who did not have a stop sign.

“The driver of the Kia was unable to avoid striking the Dodge, and the front of the Kia struck the driver’s side of the Dodge,” Covelli said.

The 89-year-old woman was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, Covelli said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
