A Buffalo Grove woman and an Oak Forest man are facing child pornography charges, and the woman was also charged with sexual assault of a child, Buffalo Grove police said following an investigation.
Kimberly Schubert, 43, of Buffalo Grove, was charged with four Class X felonies, including two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and two counts of child pornography.
Jason Akai, 44, of Oak Forest, was charged with Class X felony counts of solicitation of child pornography and production of child pornography, both charges involve the victim being under the age of 13.
“Buffalo Grove Police investigators have arrested two people for child pornography and one for predatory criminal sexual assault after concluding a multi-week investigation,” the department announced Monday morning.
The Department of Children and Family Services received a tip from an out-of-state therapist and DCFS then notified the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
“Evidence was subsequently gathered through the investigation to support the charges against Schubert. It was also determined that pornographic pictures had been distributed to Akai.”
The Buffalo Grove and Oak Forest police departments, along with the Lake County Stateโs Attorneyโs Office, conducted a search warrant at Akaiโs residence. Schubert was arrested on May 30 and Akai was arrested June 20, police said.
Schubert was initially given a $1 million bond but it was reduced to $300,000 and she was able to post the required $30,000 on June 7 to be released. Akai was given a $1 million bond and remains held in the Lake County Jail.
Schubert and Akai are both scheduled to appear in court on June 27. Police said that the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
