A man was killed and a woman was seriously injured after their SUV crashed into four parked cars and rolled over in Waukegan Saturday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 7:30 p.m. Saturday to 327 North Butrick Street.
Waukegan Police Commander Joe Florip said that a green Ford Expedition SUV was driving southbound on Butrick Street when it struck four unoccupied parked cars and rolled over.
The driver, a Waukegan man in his 40s, was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, Florip said.
The front seat passenger, a Waukegan woman in her 30s, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Based on the severity of the accident, the Waukegan Police Department’s Traffic Division was called to investigate.
Investigators believe that speed and alcohol played a factor in the crash. The driver and passenger were not wearing their seatbelts during the crash, Florip said.
Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said that an autopsy will be conducted Monday on the man, whose identity will be released once it is completed.
