A 23-year-old man was cited after he fatally struck a woman in a crosswalk with his vehicle Friday evening in Algonquin, police said.

The Algonquin Police Department said that officers responded to a report of a traffic crash at County Line Road and Stonegate Road around 7:18 p.m. Friday.

Algonquin Police Department Sgt. Robert Salazar said that a woman was crossing County Line Road at Stonegate Road, which is an intersection with a four-way stop, when she was struck by a vehicle driving westbound on County Line Road.

The woman was transported by ambulance in critical condition to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was then transferred by medical helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old Gilberts man, was not injured and showed no signs of impairment, police said. He was issued a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of County Line Road and the northbound and southbound lanes of Stonegate Road were closed for several hours during the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Algonquin Police Department, Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Algonquin Police Department at 847-658-4531.
