An 18-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a boat propeller when he fell off the bow of a boat on Lake Marie near Antioch Sunday afternoon.

The Lake County Sheriff Marine Unit responded to Lake Marie around 12:42 p.m. Sunday for a report of a person struck by a boat propeller.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a preliminary investigation shows the victim, an 18-year-old Palatine boy, was riding on the bow of a 2005 Premier Marine Pontoon Boat.

Covelli said the boy was outside of the area designated for passengers and the boat was in motion. The teenager fell off the pontoon and the boat’s propeller struck his leg.

He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The incident happened just north of the Sandbar Bar and Grille on the south end of Lake Marie.

The boat’s operator, Yinxiang Wang, 45, of the 21300 block of West Windsor Drive in Kildeer, was cited for careless operation of a watercraft for operating the boat while a passenger was in a non-designated passenger area, Covelli said.
