A firefighter and a resident suffered minor injuries after a fire caused $50,000 in damage to a garage in Crystal Lake Monday evening.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to the 1300 block of Gardina Vista Street around 11:15 p.m. Monday after a resident called 911 reporting a structure fire.
Crystal Lake Deputy Fire Chief Chris Olsen said that the garage of the home was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived.
The alarm was upgraded through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to bring additional units from neighboring fire departments to assist, Olsen said. The fire was extinguished quickly but the structure suffered extensive damage.
All of the occupants of the home escaped before firefighters arrived. A firefighter and one of the residents sustained minor injuries during the fire and were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation, Olsen said.
Damage from the fire was estimated at around $50,000 and the cause remains under investigation by investigators from the Crystal Lake, Algonquin and Nunda-Rural fire departments.
Firefighters from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, East Dundee, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry, Richmond, Union, Wauconda and Wonder Lake assisted at either the scene or with covering calls for Crystal Lake, Olsen said.
The Crystal Lake Police Department and the McHenry County EMA also assisted at the scene.
