A 63-year-old man riding his bicycle was struck by a car in Beach Park and seriously injured. The driver fled the scene and later turned herself in, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:20 a.m. Saturday to Sheridan Road and Mawman Avenue in Beach Park for a pedestrian struck by a car.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that deputies found a 63-year-old Waukegan man laying on the roadway with serious injuries. The man was transported by ambulance to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan.

The man was riding his bicycle northbound on Sheridan Road when a northbound vehicle struck him and fled from the scene, Covelli said.

An hour later, someone called from the 2600 block of Gilboa Avenue in Zion saying their 20-year-old daughter struck a pedestrian on Sheridan Road, according to Covelli.

Police went to the home and located both the driver and the vehicle. The driver cooperated with investigators and the vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet passenger car, was impounded, Covelli said.
