A man was injured but is expected to survive after he was struck by a car on Green Bay Road in Waukegan Sunday evening, police said.

The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 11:40 p.m. Sunday to Green Bay Road and Grand Avenue for a report of a person struck by a car.

Police found a man with a head injury after being struck by a southbound Chevy Cruze sedan. The collision happened south of Grand Avenue on Green Bay Road near Sheeler Avenue.

Paramedics transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Waukegan Police Lt. Anthony Joseph said that he did not have a condition of the victim but said the man was stabilized at the hospital.

The windshield and passenger side mirror of the car that struck the man was broken. Debris and blood was seen in the street where the crash happened.

The woman driving the car, who was visibly shaken, told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that she was uninjured and that the crash happened ‘very quickly’.

The southbound lanes of Green Bay Road were shut down from Grand Avenue to just north of Brookeside Avenue while the Waukegan Police Department’s Traffic Division investigated the crash.

It is unknown if any citations were issued by police. The Waukegan Police Department did not respond to requests for information Monday afternoon.
