A 40-year-old man remains in serious condition after he was run over by a pickup truck during an argument over a lawnmower near Spring Grove Sunday afternoon.

The Lake County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded around 1:40 p.m. Sunday to the 38400 block of North 4th Avenue in unincorporated Spring Grove for a report of a person that was run over by a vehicle.

Police found a 40-year-old man, of the 27900 block of West Rowe Avenue in unincorporated Spring Grove, with critical injuries.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that the 40-year-old man, a 39-year-old Spring Grove man, and a 22-year-old Spring Grove man, were engaged in a verbal argument over a lawnmower. The argument took place in the driveway of the 22-year-old man’s residence.

During the argument, the 22-year-old man began to drive forward out of his driveway in a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck.

“As he left the driveway, the 40-year-old man was struck by an ajar rear door of the pickup truck, which knocked the pedestrian to the ground. The driver continued to drive forward and one of the rear tires of the pickup truck ran over the pedestrian,” Covelli said.

The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition. He remains hospitalized in serious, but stable condition, Covelli said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriffโ€™s Technical Crash Investigations Unit. No charges have been filed as of Monday but police said they are possible in the future as the investigation continues.
