A video has emerged of a police car that was engulfed in flames Sunday evening in the parking lot of the Libertyville Police Department.

Libertyville Police Department Lt. Jeff Stolzenburg said that a police squad car caught fire around 5:30 p.m. Sunday while parked at the rear of the police department, 200 East Cook Avenue.

“The vehicle had just been parked and was unattended for only moments before the fire was detected,” Stolzenburg said.

The Libertyville Fire Department responded and was able to extinguish the fire. There were reports that live ammunition from inside the squad car was going off during the fire but police said they have not been able to confirm that yet.

A video sent to Lake and McHenry County Scanner by Willie Gillespie shows the squad car fully engulfed in flames just after it caught fire before the fire department arrived.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. No foul play is suspected, Stolzenburg said.
