Three dogs were rescued from a house fire but died despite lifesaving efforts by the homeowner Friday morning in Hebron.

The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District and Hebron Police Department responded at 7:17 a.m. Friday to the 12300 block of Jacob Avenue in Hebron for a report of a structure fire.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire and a person passing by noticed the smoke and called 911.

Firefighters arrived three minutes later and found smoke showing from the front of the two-story house. The fire was under control by around 7:55 a.m.

Firefighters conducting searches in the home found three dogs and the homeowner attempted to resuscitate them by performing CPR, which was unsuccessful.

The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District did not say how the fire started and a damage estimate was not immediately available.

Firefighters from Harvard, Richmond, Spring Grove, Woodstock, Wonder Lake and Linn, Wisconsin assisted Hebron firefighters at the scene.
