A 16-year-old boy is in the ICU and his condition is improving after police officers and a bystander rescued him from Bangs Lake in Wauconda early Saturday morning.
The Wauconda Fire District and the Wauconda Police Department responded around 12:35 a.m. to the area of Madison Avenue and Edgewater Parkway for a report of a water rescue.
Bystanders called 911 after there was a report that a 16-year-old boy was in the water having trouble staying afloat, Wauconda police said.
Police officers and a bystander were able to locate the boy in the water. The boy was unconscious but breathing when he was rescued.
He was transported by paramedics to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition. Police said that the boy is now in good condition in the intensive care unit and is expected to be released soon.
