A Crystal Lake man has been charged with numerous felonies after police say he used Snapchat and other social media to solicit girls and sexually abuse them.
Joshua G. Dancy, 23, of the 900 block of Sheffield Drive in Crystal Lake, was originally arrested on May 29 and charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Crystal Lake police said that they originally charged Dancy after an investigation showed he had solicited sexual conduct and engaged in sexual intercourse with two underage girls. He was released on bail and pleaded not guilty to those charges.
Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said that a third victim was discovered in the investigation and Dancy was arrested on Friday at a residence in McHenry.
Six counts of child pornography, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and indecent solicitation of a child charges were filed against Dancy in addition to his original charges, court records show.
Kotlowski said that two minor girls filed a complaint with the Marengo Police Department in May and the Crystal Lake Police Department began their investigation.
Detectives discovered evidence of indecent solicitation of a child over the use of social media, Kotlowski said, adding that Dancy came into contact with the victims through Snapchat and other social media around November 2018.
“Through that communication, Dancy gained the trust of the minors and obtained several sexually-oriented nude images of victims,” Kotlowski said in a press release.
“Evidence of sexual conduct between Dancy and the minors were developed during the investigation,” Kotlowski added.
The investigation remains active as police search for additional victims. Dancy remains held in the McHenry County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on August 13.
