A man wanted for stealing cash, jewelry and a TV from a home was taken into custody following a several hour-long standoff with police and a SWAT team in Lake in the Hills on Thursday.

Jesus Valdez, 20, of the 400 block of Cedar Street in Lake in the Hills, was charged with residential burglary, criminal damage to property, possession of stolen property and resisting a peace officer.

Valdez is accused of burglarizing a home in the 300 block of Hiawatha Drive in Lake in the Hills on Wednesday. Police said that he took $900 in cash, a television and miscellaneous jewelry during the burglary.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 11:38 a.m. Thursday to the 400 block of Cedar Street to arrest Valdez at his residence.

When officers made contact with the man, he retreated into his residence, Lake in the Hills Police Department Communications Coordinator Ashley Eccles said.
