Two people are confirmed dead after a car traveling at a high speed crashed into a condominium building in Round Lake Beach, causing heavy damage Saturday evening.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 7:35 p.m. Saturday to the 1500 block of West Crystal Rock Court for a report of a rollover crash.
Fire crews arrived and found an orange 2006 Pontiac G6 that had reportedly rolled over and struck the condominium building on the corner of West Clear Water Circle and Long Lake Drive. The building and the car sustained heavy damage.
Two people inside the vehicle had to be extricated by firefighters. Witnesses reported that paramedics were performing CPR on both of the victims before they were put into ambulances.
They were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with critical injuries and were later pronounced dead, Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper told Lake and McHenry County Scanner late Saturday evening.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to bring structural collapse technicians from numerous fire department to the scene.
Autopsies are being scheduled on the two victims, whose identities are being withheld pending notification to their family members.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department has not released any official information regarding the crash as of late Saturday evening.
