The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:15 p.m. Friday to Route 173 west of Hunt Club Road in unincorporated Antioch for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Police found a 44-year-old Woodridge man dead in the roadway, Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

The 44-year-old man was standing in the westbound lanes of traffic for an unknown reason when he was struck by the westbound Volkswagen, Covelli said.

The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.

A vehicle belonging to the 44-year-old man was located near the crash scene stuck on a large landscaping rock, Covelli added.
