A 44-year-old man standing in the roadway on Route 173 near Antioch was struck and killed by a car late Friday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:15 p.m. Friday to Route 173 west of Hunt Club Road in unincorporated Antioch for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Police found a 44-year-old Woodridge man dead in the roadway, Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.
A 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 33-year-old Lindenhurst woman, was traveling westbound on Route 173 just west of Hunt Club Road.
The 44-year-old man was standing in the westbound lanes of traffic for an unknown reason when he was struck by the westbound Volkswagen, Covelli said.
The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.
A vehicle belonging to the 44-year-old man was located near the crash scene stuck on a large landscaping rock, Covelli added.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is in the process of scheduling an autopsy.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
