Vyto P. Jurkynas, 62, of McHenry.

A 62-year-old McHenry man has been charged with almost two dozen counts of possession of child pornography, police announced.

Vyto P. Jurkynas, 62, of the 3800 block of West Main Street in McHenry, was charged with nine Class 3 felony counts of possession of child pornography and 11 Class X felony counts of possession of child pornography.

The McHenry Police Department said that they received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Jurkynas had been downloading child pornography from the internet.

The information led to an investigation completed by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and McHenry Police Department.

McHenry Police Department Deputy Chief Thomas Walsh said that evidence was collected and interviews were conducted with Jurkynas, leading to the charges being approved by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Jurkynas was taken into custody Friday and processed through booking, Walsh said. He remains held in the McHenry County Jail after being unable to post 10 percent of his $100,000 bond.
