The coroner has identified the motorcyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday evening in Crystal Lake and police said that the woman who fled the scene has been charged.

Carolyn A. Tyrrell, 53, of Crystal Lake, was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, which is a Class 1 felony.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue responded around 7:37 p.m. Tuesday to Virginia Road and Berkshire Drive for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Derek Hyrkas said that the motorcycle, driven by George Klinger, 53, of Algonquin, was traveling southbound on Virginia Road when a red sedan struck the motorcycle in the intersection at Berkshire Drive.

Klinger, along with his female passenger, were ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway. The red sedan fled the scene heading westbound on Berkshire Drive.

A U.S. Marine that was driving by and saw the crash began performing CPR on Klinger before paramedics arrived. He was transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, police said.

A Flight For Life medical helicopter was called and transported the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, police said.

“Evidence recovered at the scene resulted in Investigators quickly locating the offending vehicle in the 900 block of Wesley Drive, Crystal Lake,” Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said.

Tyrrell was taken into custody around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday and additional charges are expected to be filed against her, police said.

She remains held in the McHenry County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
