Carolyn A. Tyrrell, 53, of Crystal Lake.

The woman charged with hitting a motorcycle, killing an Algonquin man and seriously injuring his wife, and then leaving the scene Tuesday evening has been released on a $100,000 bond.

Carolyn A. Tyrrell, 53, of Crystal Lake, was charged with failure to report an accident involving death, which is a Class 1 felony.

She appeared in bond court Thursday morning where McHenry County Circuit Judge Mark Gerhardt set the woman’s bond at $100,000.

Tyrrell was denied a public defender for her case but was appointed one for bail determination only. She posted the required 10 percent of the $100,000 bond and was released from the McHenry County Jail around 10:30 a.m. Thursday after bond court.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Derek Hyrkas said that a motorcycle, driven by George Klinger, 53, of Algonquin, was traveling southbound on Virginia Road around 7:35 p.m. Tuesday near Berkshire Drive in Crystal Lake.

A red sedan struck the motorcycle in the intersection and Klinger and his wife were ejected from it onto the roadway. The red sedan fled the scene heading westbound on Berkshire Drive.

A U.S. Marine that was driving by and saw the crash began performing CPR on Klinger before paramedics arrived. He was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, police said.

A Flight For Life medical helicopter was called and transported Klinger’s wife to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, police said.

Police investigators located the red sedan’s bumper nearby the crash scene and found the vehicle in the 900 block of Wesley Drive in Crystal Lake a short time later. Tyrrell was taken into custody around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Tyrrell is scheduled to appear back in court on September 26 for a status hearing.
