A 22-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound after a gunman fired eight rounds into an apartment in Zion early Saturday morning, police said.

The Zion Police Department responded just after midnight Saturday to the 4200 block of Birch Drive in Zion for a report of a shooting.

Police said that approximately eight rounds were fired into an apartment, striking a 22-year-old man in the leg.

The man was transported by private vehicle to the Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan before police arrived. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

“Officers have developed leads and identified possible suspects. Both the victim and the suspects are known by our department,” the Zion Police Department said in a statement.

“This does not appear to be a random incident and there is no danger to the general public,” the department added.

The shooting comes months after a 42-year-old man was fatally stabbed in June on the next street over from the shooting in the 4100 block of Barberry Lane.
