No one was injured after at least one shot was fired during a shooting in a Vernon Hills neighborhood which put schools and daycare facilities in the area on lockdown Tuesday morning, police said.

The Vernon Hills Police Department responded around 8:45 a.m. to the 300 block of Plumwood Court for a report of shots fired.

At least one shot was fired at an unoccupied car during a dispute in the Westwood subdivision off of Route 45 and Sullivan Drive, according to Vernon Hills Police Department Deputy Chief Patrick Zimmerman.

A soft lockdown was issued for daycare facilities and schools in the area, including District 73 and Vernon Hills High School, while police secured the area, Zimmerman said.

Stevenson High School went into a closed campus out of ‘extreme precaution,’ Lincolnshire Police Department Commander Kimberly Covelli said.

A “closed campus” is when students and staff are able to move throughout the building and continue with classes but a restriction is placed on who can enter or exit the facility, Covelli said.

The soft lockdowns were lifted a short time later, Zimmerman said, adding that there is no immediate threat to the community.

Police continue to investigate near the scene and are following up on leads to possible suspects, Zimmerman said. The shooting remains under investigation by the Vernon Hills Police Department.
