A 60-year-old man riding his bicycle was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle and found dead laying in the street in Waukegan Thursday evening, police said.

The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 10:45 p.m. Thursday to 8th Street and Jackson Street for a report of a person struck by a vehicle.

Police officers found a 60-year-old Waukegan man, who had been riding his bicycle, laying in the street after apparently being hit by a car, police said.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to police and Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Traffic Division was called to investigate the incident and officers later located the suspected offending vehicle, a silver 2006 Cadillac SUV.

Cooper said that an autopsy on the man is expected to be performed on Monday and the name of the victim will be released shortly after.
