A 43-year-old Harvard man was killed after he crashed his motorcycle and was then thrown from it in Wonder Lake Wednesday evening, police said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District responded around 7:39 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Hancock Drive and East Lake Shore Drive in Wonder Lake for a report of a motorcycle crash.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that a preliminary investigation shows that a 2001 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail motorcycle was traveling westbound on Hancock Drive.

The driver, a 43-year-old Harvard man, lost control of the motorcycle and drove off of the road onto the unpaved median at the intersection, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, who was the only person involved in the crash, was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the sheriff’s office said.
