Police and the coroner’s office are investigating the death, which is not believed to be suspicious, of a 12-month-old Crystal Lake girl after she was found unresponsive at a Wonder Lake home.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District and Wonder Lake Police Department responded around 3 a.m. to the home in Wonder Lake and an ambulance transported the infant to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.
The girl and her mother, who are from Crystal Lake, were staying with relatives when the infant was found unresponsive, the McHenry County Coroner’s Office said in a press release.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office said that their office was notified around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday after the infant was pronounced dead at the hospital.
“We worked on her for an hour but were unable to revive the baby. It was very hard for everyone involved,” an emergency room nurse at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
“She was not neglected nor abused in any form,” the nurse added.
An autopsy has been completed but a cause of death is pending while the coroner’s office awaits the toxicology results, a pathologists’ report, and the final police report, McHenry County Interim Coroner John Miller said.
Miller added that the death is not believed to be suspicious in nature. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office and the Wonder Lake Police Department continue their investigation into the death.
