Police are investigating a shooting that left a boy hospitalized after he was reportedly shot in the neck at a Mundelein apartment building Saturday evening.

The Mundelein Police Department and Mundelein Fire Department responded around 8:33 p.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Longwood Terrace for a report of a shooting.

Police found a juvenile boy with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to a preliminary police radio report. Paramedics transported the boy to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The boy, whose age has not been released, reportedly underwent surgery twice and has since been stabilized, a source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

Mundelein police said that they received conflicting information from witnesses at the apartment about what happened. Officers later found a gun in someone’s possession and were conducting interviews with witnesses at the police station.
