A 15-year-old boy has been charged with shooting another 15-year-old boy in the neck at an apartment building in Mundelein Saturday evening, police said.

The 15-year-old suspect, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was petitioned to juvenile court on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The Mundelein Police Department and Mundelein Fire Department responded around 8:33 p.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Longwood Terrace for a report of a shooting.

Police found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the neck. Paramedics transported the boy to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The boy reportedly underwent surgery twice and has since been stabilized, a source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

Mundelein police said that they received conflicting information from witnesses at the apartment about what happened. Officers later recovered the gun used in the shooting and were conducting interviews with witnesses at the police station.
