A man is facing several charges after he allegedly ran over his girlfriend’s mother with a car during an altercation in Zion, police said.
Juan D. Zavaleta, 21, of Waukegan, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence with great bodily harm, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a BAC greater than .08 and illegal transportation of alcohol.
The Zion Police Department and Zion Fire-Rescue Department responded around 2:55 a.m. Sunday to the 3000 block of North Lebanon Avenue for a 44-year-old woman struck by a vehicle.
Officers determined the woman had been run over by her daughter’s boyfriend, identified as Zavaleta, following a physical altercation at their residence, according to the Zion Police Department.
The woman was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where she remains in critical but stable condition, police said.
Officers located Zavaleta’s vehicle several blocks away and took the man into custody after witnesses positively identified him.
Zavaleta was transported to the Zion Police Department where his blood alcohol content was determined to be twice the legal limit.
Zavaleta was transferred to the Lake County Jail where he remains held on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday.
