Two men, one who was armed with a weapon, were arrested after police say they drove a car that was stolen from Gurnee and burglarized vehicles in Libertyville.

Maurice J. Williams, 22, of the 2000 block of Georgetown Lane in Waukegan, was charged with possession of a stolen auto, two counts of burglary to auto, unlawful use of a firearm by a felon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a credit or debit card, obstructing identification and criminal trespass to motor vehicle.

Chevy R. Allen Wadelton, 19, of the 500 block of Claire Lane in Prospect Heights, was charged with two counts of burglary to auto, two counts of trespass to auto and theft.

The Libertyville Police Department said that officers came upon two suspicious men near Riva Ridge Drive and Ruidoso Court around 2:53 a.m. September 26.

Officers discovered that Allen Wadelton and Williams had been burglarizing vehicles in the surrounding neighborhoods. Authorities also learned that Williams had a warrant for a parole violation.

The vehicle the two men used to drive to Libertyville was a 2011 Nissan Altima, which had been reported stolen from Gurnee, according to Libertyville Police Sgt. Edward Swider.

Both men were taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail after the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charges against the men.

Allen Wadelton was released after posting bail and Williams remains held on a $75,000 bond.
