J Landen Mortimer, 17, of Marengo.

A 17-year-old Marengo boy who went missing for four days has been located safe, his family said.

J Landen Mortimer, 17, of Marengo, went missing on Wednesday afternoon after he left with a friend who claimed he dropped the teen off at Harvard High School between 4-5 p.m.

His family said that they cannot confirm if their son was actually dropped off by his friend or not.

“J is currently without a working cell phone because I removed the SIM card from it. This was supposed to be a “punishment” that has now backfired. We do not know how to contact or track him,” J’s father, Scott Mortimer said.

A missing persons report was filed with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office the day he went missing, Scott Mortimer said, adding that “J” is his son’s full first name and not an abbreviation.

His family said on Monday that J had been located safe.
