Marcus E. Davis, 29, of Waukegan.

A Waukegan man has been charged after police say he sexually abused a then 15-year-old boy numerous times and knowingly transmitted HIV to him.

Marcus E. Davis, 29, of the 800 block of Greenwood Avenue in Waukegan, was charged with criminal transmission of HIV, a Class 2 felony, and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that the parents of a now 16-year-old boy learned their son had been sexually active with Davis on numerous occasions since the boy was 15 years old.

The parents, after becoming aware of the situation in June, notified the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and detectives launched an investigation.

Detectives learned that Davis drove to the boy’s home in Lake County on numerous occasions and ‘engaged in sexual acts’ with the boy, Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

Davis also picked up the boy and drove him to his Waukegan home where he engaged in sexual intercourse with the boy, Covelli said.

“Further investigation revealed there was unprotected sexual contact between Davis and the boy. Davis, who was aware he was an HIV carrier, did not tell the boy until the two already engaged in several instances of unprotected sexual penetration,” Covelli said.

Police confirmed that the boy contracted HIV from Davis, who remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing on Saturday.

“Davis and the boy first met on a popular mobile dating application. Parents should always be aware of inspecting your child’s mobile devices/computers to examine what applications are installed and who they are communicating with,” Covelli said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who may be a victim of Davis to report it to detectives at 847-377-4250.
