Police are investigating after a man tried robbing a woman of her purse in the Walmart parking lot in Zion Thursday evening.

The Zion Police Department was called around 6:30 p.m. Thursday to the Walmart, 4000 Route 173 in Zion, for a report of a robbery.

Police said that a man tried to steal a woman’s purse from her grocery cart outside in the parking lot. The victim, a 31-year-old Waukegan woman, resisted his efforts and in the process dropped her keys.

The suspect picked up the woman’s keys and ran to a waiting vehicle, believed to be a silver Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a female with a male passenger in it, police said.

The suspect is described as a male black teenager, thin build, approximately 5-foot-8, wearing a black-colored hooded sweatshirt and light-colored jeans.

Police said that the suspect was not armed and the getaway vehicle is not the same car that was stolen during a carjacking in Waukegan on Wednesday.
