A Crystal Lake couple is facing felony charges after federal authorities and local police raided their apartment and found 280 grams of cocaine, which is valued at almost $23,000.

Carmen J. Gutierrez, 44, and Angelica Sotelo-Torres, 42, both of the 500 block of Darlington Lane in Crystal Lake, are facing charges of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class X felony, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony.

The Crystal Lake Police Department, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) executed a residential search warrant on Wednesday at the couple’s residence in the 500 block of Darlington Lane.

“This couple were persons of interest during an ongoing joint narcotics investigation which began in March 2019,” Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said.

Police found more than 280 grams of cocaine inside the residence, which has a street value of $22,640, according to Kotlowski.

Gutierrez and Sotelo-Torres were transported to the McHenry County Jail where they each remain held on a $150,000 bond. They are both scheduled to appear in court again on Monday.

The drug investigation remains ongoing by the Crystal Lake Police Department.
