A 24-year-old Lake in the Hills woman has been sentenced to more than 7 years in prison after she was found in possession of heroin while on probation for a previous heroin charge.
Michelle M. Cappello, also known as Michelle Hall, of Lake In The Hills, was on two years of probation on the charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony, for delivering heroin in 2016, prosecutors said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office found Cappello in possession of multiple baggies of heroin on June 29 and charged her with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony, while she was still on probation for the previous drug charge.
Cappello pleaded guilty to the new charge and admitted to violating the terms of her original sentence, McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally said.
McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt sentenced Cappello to 4 ½ years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for violating her probation along with a concurrent 3 years in prison for her new offense.
The cases were investigated by members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Brette Dunbar of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
