The Lake Zurich Paulus Park Barn was heavily damaged during a fire Saturday evening, causing the winter farmer’s market and other programs to be postponed, officials said.

The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded around 8:25 p.m. Saturday to The Barn at Paulus Park, 200 South Rand Road, for a report of a structure fire.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy flames showing from the building and additional resources were called to the scene through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS).

The fire was brought under control quickly and no one was inside the building at the time of the fire. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The Barn is a building owned by the Lake Zurich Parks and Recreation Department. It serves as the department’s administrative offices and was also available to be rented for events.

“We want to thank our mutual aid partners, dispatchers, police department, and public works for their assistance,” fire officials said.

The Lake County Indoor Winter Farmer’s Market was scheduled to have their opening day at The Barn on Sunday. The event has been postponed and a new venue is being sought.

“I know how much our customers looked forward to the opening day, and how hard the vendors had worked getting stuff ready. On Monday we will work on securing a new venue and as soon as we have a new lease signed we will get you the new address,” the Lake County Indoor Winter Farmer’s Market said on social media.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department.
