A 15-year-old Warren Township High School student is in critical condition after being struck by a car near the campus Tuesday afternoon in Gurnee, fire officials said.

The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 3:25 p.m. Tuesday to Route 132 and O’Plaine Road for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Emergency crews found a 15-year-old boy who had been struck by a 2008 Honda Accord. Paramedics transported the boy to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he remains in critical but stable condition, Gurnee Fire Department Lt. Andy Wienckowski said.

The teen, who is reportedly a student at Warren Township High School, was struck near the campus around dismissal time.

Heavy delays were reported after westbound Route 132 was shutdown by police due to the crash. The road was reopened by 4:30 p.m.

The Gurnee Police Department was not immediately available for comment regarding what caused the crash or who was at fault.
