A group of Lake County firefighters took home the division championship during the Armed Services Hockey Association annual tournament over the weekend in Las Vegas.

Team GFD Local 3598, made up of players who work for the Gurnee, Waukegan, Lake Bluff and Park Ridge fire departments, beat the Colorado Punishers on Sunday to win the New Dawn division.

The team consisted of Gurnee firefighters Bob Davidson, Eric Liebert, Heath Graham and Justin Graham; Waukegan firefighters Mike Babbs, Justin Johnson, James Milakovic and Jonny Valentine; Park Ridge firefighter Brian Specht; Lake Bluff firefighter Justin Morabito.

Joey Morabito, who works for the Winnetka Public Works, and Kevin Graham also took part on the team.

The annual Armed Services Hockey Association tournament in Las Vegas is the largest open invitation international military ice hockey tournament in the world, according to the organization’s website.

The Armed Services Hockey Association was founded in 2002 and consisted of teams from the Air Force, Army and Coast Guard. The organization has since grown and now includes all branches of the military, and police and fire departments from the United States and Canada.
