A Lakemoor police officer was ticketed after a photo circulated on social media showing the officer’s squad car parked in a handicap parking spot.
The photo was taken by Chris Harrah on Sunday in the Lakemoor Crossings Shopping Center near the Rosati’s Pizza, 28948 Route 120.
Lakemoor Police Chief David Godlewski said that the officer, who was not publicly identified, was issued a $350 citation and will face internal discipline.
Godlewski said that the officer was not responding to a call and took full responsibility for breaking the law.
The Lakemoor Police Department received several complaints from people who saw the photo on social media, Godlewski said.
On October 5, a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy parked her squad car in a handicap spot outside of Chipotle, 2304 North Richmond Road in McHenry, while getting lunch.
The deputy was given a $250 citation, received internal discipline and was ordered to attend sensitivity training.
“The Sheriff’s Office expects all of its employees to comply with the same laws and statutes as the public. The Sheriff’s Office continues to faithfully serve the community, promoting the safety and protection for all,” the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said in October.
