9 years in prison for Crystal Lake man who provided fentanyl-laced heroin in girlfriend’s fatal overdose

Jeffrey J. Hauck, 33, of Crystal Lake.

A Crystal Lake man has been sentenced to nine years in prison in connection with the fatal fentanyl-laced heroin overdose of his girlfriend, prosecutors said.

Jeffrey J. Hauck, 33, of Crystal Lake, was sentenced after being found guilty of drug-induced homicide at a bench trial in front of McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt.

Stephanie Phillippi, 32, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead in Crystal Lake on March 6 after ingesting heroin and fentanyl, prosecutors said.

The Crystal Lake Police Department learned that Hauck had traveled to Chicago to purchase bags of heroin that contained fentanyl. Hauck brought those bags back to Crystal Lake and delivered them to another person eventually gave it to Phillippi, prosecutors said.

Hauck was sentenced to nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections but could have his sentence cut in half for good behavior.

Melissa Ohlson, 41, of Woodstock, and Kane E. Kellet, 34, of Crystal Lake, are also charged with drug-induced homicide in connection with Phillippi’s death. They are scheduled to appear in court in early December.

The case was investigated by Crystal Lake Police Department Detective Eitel and prosecuted by Brette Dunbar and Mick Combs of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
