No one was injured after a fire broke out at the Lighthouse Pub and Grill in Winthrop Harbor, causing flames and smoke to billow out of the second floor window Saturday morning.

The Winthrop Harbor Fire Department responded around 6:54 a.m. to the Lighthouse Pub and Grill, 935 Sheridan Road, for a report of a fire alarm activation.

Firefighters arrived and found smoke and flames coming from a second floor window on the west side of the building, Winthrop Harbor Deputy Fire Chief Bill Beetschen said.

“A hose line was immediately deployed from the outside while a crew made their way inside to the second floor of the structure with a second hose line,” Beetschen said.

The fire was quickly controlled and extinguished within fifteen minutes. The fire was contained to the residential apartment space where it had started.

The two residents were able to exit the building safely when the fire alarm initially sounded, Beetschen said. Other portions of the building suffered smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage estimates were not immediately available. Sheridan Road was closed from 9th Street to 13th Street for approximately one hour while crews extinguished the fire.

The American Red Cross also responded to assist the two residents who were displaced from the fire. The Winthrop Harbor Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Beach Park, Newport, Pleasant Prairie and Zion.
