A man has been charged with first-degree murder after police say he stabbed his 68-year-old female relative to death at her Park City home and then stole her vehicle.

Jeffery Michael Thrall, 60, is facing two counts of first-degree murder after charges were approved by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Thrall, who has no permanent home address, went to the relative’s home in the 3100 block of 7th Street in Park City, where he allegedly stabbed the 68-year-old woman to death, according to Lake County Major Crime Task Force Spokesman Christopher Covelli.

The Park City Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department were called around 12:35 a.m. Tuesday after the woman’s roommate found her bleeding and unresponsive on the floor inside their mobile home.

Paramedics pronounced the woman, who has not yet been publicly identified, dead at the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the residence and an autopsy was conducted Tuesday.

Officers quickly learned that Thrall stole the woman’s vehicle after the murder, Park City Police Chief Walter Holderbaum said. Police later located her car, with Thrall inside it, at a gas station near Green Bay Road and Sunset Avenue in Waukegan.

Covelli said that Thrall had recently been released from the Lake County Jail after serving almost a year for a previous charge.

Thrall remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $5 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on December 19.
