Waukegan police arrested two men on gun charges just hours apart in separate incidents, including one incident where a man tried fleeing police after his car struck a curb.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 7 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 2600 block of Menominee Road for a 911 call of a person with a gun.
Officers located two handguns in the residence and Israel Carasquilla, 31, of Waukegan, was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Detectives responded to the scene and continue to investigate. Additional arrests are expected.
Just hours later, police officers on patrol around 1 a.m. Monday noticed a vehicle partially disabled after striking a curb near Sheridan Road and Franklin Street in Waukegan, officials said.
The vehicle attempted to flee when officers approached. The vehicle was stopped and officers arrested the driver, Demonshea Davidson, 26, of Zion. Officers located a stolen handgun from Wisconsin inside Davidson’s car, the Waukegan Police Department said.
He was charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon without a concealed carry license, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon for possession of ammunition and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Carasquilla remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $25,000 bond and Davidson remains held on a $250,000 bond. Carasquilla will appear in court on January 9 and Davidson will appear on December 19.
