A family was displaced from their residence after a fire broke out Wednesday evening at an Algonquin apartment building, fire officials said.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 5 p.m. Wednesday to 200 East Algonquin Road in Algonquin for an apartment fire.

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Captain Bill Hough told the Patch that 30 people were evacuated from the apartment building and one family was displaced from their unit in which the fire started. Police assisted the fire department in evacuating everyone safely, officials said.

The rest of the residents were able to return to their apartments after fire crews left the scene. Fire officials believe the fire was accidental and the investigation continues, a statement said.
