A semi-truck ran a red light and struck a car before rolling over and spilling its load onto the roadway, which was shutdown for nearly six hours Monday in Volo.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:45 a.m. Monday to Route 120 and Fish Lake Road in Volo for a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries.
Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a semi-tractor-trailer truck was traveling westbound on Route 120 approaching Fish Lake Road when it was unable to stop for the red light and drove through the intersection.
The truck struck a 2015 Lexus RX 350 as it was turning from southbound Fish Lake Road onto westbound Route 120.
The semi-truck then overturned and traveled approximately 200 feet west of the intersection and spilled its load of garbage, Covelli said.
The Lexus SUV was pushed off the roadway and two occupants in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. They were both transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The driver of the truck was uninjured and cited for running the red light, Covelli said. The roadway was closed for around six hours until 3:30 p.m. as crews cleaned up the crash.
