Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire on a group of four people, striking two teens and a man, while they were sitting in a stolen car in Waukegan late Sunday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 11:30 p.m. to the 1000 block of Yeoman Street for a report of a shooting.
Responding officers learned that four subjects were sitting in an SUV on the street when someone opened fire on them, according to Waukegan Police Commander Joe Florip.
Three of the subjects, which included two teen boys and a man in his 20s, had been struck by the gunfire. The three victims are all from Waukegan and the fourth subject in the vehicle was a teen from Zion, who was not injured.
The three victims were transported by ambulances to area hospitals and are in stable condition, Florip said. The SUV that the victims were sitting in was reported stolen from Barrington on December 10.
Based on witness statements, the suspect was last seen fleeing the area on foot. Multiple shell casings have been recovered, but the caliber and amount of shell casings are not being released, police said.
The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department’s Tip Line at 847-856-6444.
