A 22-year-old man has been charged and two others are being sought after a man was beaten with a metal pipe and robbed inside the garage of his Waukegan home last week.
Eric Giles, 22, of the 1400 block of Leith Avenue in Waukegan, was charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony, and aggravated robbery, a Class 1 felony.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:50 p.m. Friday to the 36600 block of North Adelphi Avenue in unincorporated Waukegan for a report of an armed robbery.
The victim, a 41-year-old man, was working on a vehicle in the detached garage of his property when he was approached by three men who entered the garage and confronted him.
The suspects ordered the victim to give them his cash, cellphone and jewelry he was wearing, Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.
The victim handed the suspects his belongings and then one of the men, identified as Giles, shoved the victim to the ground, Covelli said.
One of the other suspects struck the victim several times with a metal pipe and the men fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives positively identified Giles as being involved in the incident and the Lake County Stateโs Attorneyโs Office approved an arrest warrant with a $500,000 bond.
Giles, after learning he had a warrant for his arrest, surrendered himself to the Lake County Sheriffโs Office Wednesday morning, Covelli said.
Detectives are working to identify the other two involved in the armed robbery, which is believed to have been targeted. Anyone with information should contact the Lake County Sheriffโs Office at 847-377-4000 or Lake County CrimeStoppers at 847-662-2222.
