Lake County Sheriff K-9 located robbery suspect Ryan C. Finlayson, 31, of Fox Lake, early Monday morning.

A 31-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly robbed a Fox Lake gas station with an airsoft gun before being tracked down by Lake County Sheriff canine Dax, authorities said.

Ryan C. Finlayson, 31, of the 1000 block of Fairway Drive in Fox Lake, was charged with aggravated robbery, a Class 1 felony, court records show.

The Fox Lake Police Department responded around 2:10 a.m. Monday to the Thorntons gas station at Route 12 and Grand Avenue for a report of an armed robbery. The suspect allegedly displayed a firearm, which turned out to be an airsoft gun.

Lake County Sheriff Deputy John Forlenza and his canine partner Dax were called to the scene to help search for the suspect, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that Dax tracked the suspect’s scent for a quarter mile before locating Finlayson hiding near a closed restaurant.
