A 44-year-old man was critically injured and flown to the hospital after his Mercedes SUV hit a truck head-on and rolled over in North Barrington Wednesday.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Zurich Fire Department responded around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday to Route 12 and Timberlake Road in North Barrington for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Deputies located two vehicles, a 2003 Mercedes-Benz SUV and a 1995 Freightliner truck pulling a trailer, both with heavy damage.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that the Mercedes-Benz SUV, driven by a 44-year-old Palatine man, was traveling northbound on Route 12 when it crossed the grassy median.

It drove into the southbound lanes of traffic, striking the southbound Freightliner truck, which was driven by a 52-year-old Elgin man. The impact caused the Mercedes-Benz to roll over into the ditch on the west side of Route 12, Covelli said.
