A North Chicago man, who is a documented street gang member, was arrested after police located drugs and guns inside his residence following an investigation, authorities said.

Ruben A. Garcia, 30, of the 1200 block of Lincoln Street in North Chicago, was charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Group concluded a several week investigation on Thursday into Garcia, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers conducted a search warrant at Garcia’s home in the 1200 block of Lincoln Street in North Chicago and found him to be in possession of nearly 30 grams of powder cocaine packaged for distribution, two semi-automatic pistols, numerous rounds of ammunition and drug paraphernalia, Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

Garcia was arrested and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against him.

“Removing illegally possessed firearms and drugs from our communities is the precise mission of the Special Investigations Group. I am thankful they moved quickly to keep this documented street gang member from being able to sell drugs or illegally possess firearms in our community,” Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said.

Garcia remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $350,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 8.
