A mother who tried rescuing her two sons and a dog that fell through the ice on a pond in Deer Park was rescued by firefighters Thursday evening, authorities said.
The Lake Zurich Fire Department and Long Grove Fire Department responded around 5:49 p.m. Thursday to the 21000 block of North Inglenook Court in Deer Park for a water rescue.
Firefighters found two young boys who reported that their mother was in the pond and could not get out. The mother was clinging to the edge of the ice above the water’s surface approximately 50 feet from shore, the Lake Zurich Fire Department said.
The mother went onto the ice to rescue her two sons who fell through while rescuing the family dog. A fire rescue diver was deployed onto the ice and rescued the trapped mother.
Paramedics assessed the mother, her two sons and their father, who was also trying to rescue his wife before the fire department arrived, officials said.
Two of the family members were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in North Barrington in stable condition.
“The Lake Zurich Fire Department would like to remind residents to always be aware of potentially thin ice especially during the milder winter weather conditions,” officials said in a statement.
