A 19-year-old man clocked driving 112 mph in a 45 mph zone in Deer Park told a Lake County sheriff’s deputy he was driving fast to bring food to his girlfriend.

Oscar Rocha, 19, of the 100 block of Birch Street in Carpentersville, was cited for aggravated speeding, reckless driving and operating an uninsured vehicle.

A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol around 8:30 p.m. December 28 near Lake Cook Road and Deer Park Boulevard in Deer Park.

The deputy clocked a black Chevrolet Camaro traveling 67 mph in a 45 mph zone. When the deputy was turned around to initiate a traffic stop, the Camaro accelerated to 112 mph the 45 mph zone, Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

The deputy was able to catch up to the Camaro and pull it over near Lake Cook Road and Oak Ridge Lane.

The driver, identified as Rocha, told the deputy he was driving quickly to his girlfriend’s house in a nearby town to bring her food, Covelli said.

Rocha was issued three citations and had his vehicle towed. He is scheduled to appear in branch court.
